STARS – Night with STARS

STARS Air Ambulance only began its Saskatoon operation in October of 2012. With little to no brand presence in the Saskatoon area, STARS’ Saskatoon branch looked to William Joseph for some stimulating creative for its first event that would empower it to emerge as a prominent charitable organization in Saskatoon.

William Joseph’s goal was to brand this event in a way that would develop an enduring presence in the community and appeal to a large audience, including both corporate citizens and people living in rural areas, and in doing so, establish it as a leading fundraising event in the city.

William Joseph developed the branding and event materials, including the overall creative concept that all event materials follow, as well as an event logo, a sponsorship booklet, tickets, posters, and an event program. William Joseph’s branding set the Night with STARS gala up for many years of success.

STARS – Website

For the past 21 years, The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) has hosted their signature fundraising event, which is highly recognized and supported by the Alberta energy industry. Last year alone, they raised a total of $1.1 million in support of STARS and their lifesaving mission. PSAC and STARS came to William Joseph with the challenge of creating a brand that represented both parties as they worked towards the joint goal of raising money for a very important cause. They wanted a signature look and feel for the gala that would set the foundation for a strong and consistent long-term brand.

From the updated promotional materials (logo, tickets, website, and program) to the décor, guests experienced an updated Western theme at the 2015 event. William Joseph was successful in creating a brand that would carry the event into the future and ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the Stars and Spurs Gala.

STARS – Event Guide

Having designed previous event guides for STARS, the team at WJ brought forward the idea of creating something slightly more timeless than just an event guide, which housed content that would stay relevant passed the date of the Gala. The accounts, strategy and creative teams all came together to create a unique, colourful and impactful magazine-style event guide that was customized based on the STARS event branding strategy.

STARS – Microsite

William Joseph previously worked with STARS to create a brand that would carry the STARS and SPURS Gala event into the future and ensure its long-term sustainability and success. Building on this event branding, the team at WJ also developed a straightforward and intuitive event microsite that helped potential sponsors, event attendees and other charitable organizations find information about sponsorship opportunities and the event itself.

STARS – Fundraising Book

In 2015, Stars Air Ambulance contacted William Joseph for a unique project. Nearly 80% of STARS operating costs are funded by donations, which are gathered through a number of events each year. They contracted the team at William Joseph to create a personalized marketing piece that would appeal to an A-List celebrity and encourage them to play a benefit show to fundraise for the cause.

Using the concept of a storybook, our strategy team came up with a narrative that described how an investment of time could ultimately save the lives of people across Western Canada. Once the narrative was laid out, our creative team took over and designed a beautiful book that shows just how beautiful our home is and the importance of STARS Air Ambulance’s cause.

The latest edition to the William Joseph art collection is a special one!

A talented showman (to say the least), Freddie Mercury had a keen sense for both theatrics and design. The Queen front man had a diploma in graphic design from Ealing College of Art and applied his visual talents to various Queen projects, including multiple album covers and the now famous Queen crest. Did you know that the creatures included in the logo (two lions, two fairies and a crab) represent the zodiac signs of each band member?

Coincidentally, many pop culture legends have or had a background in graphic design, including Pete Townshend, David Bowie and Alan Rickman.

As an agency rooted in creativity and built up of many talented artists ourselves, it's safe to say we're pretty fortunate to be in such company.
